Chapter 6: Homes of the Damned

Part 6: Penance

"ENOUGH!" Baal screamed, causing a hurricane and flinging every one of them in different directions. "Or I will throw you all into the abyss and replace you with a new council of Satan!"

Moprheus flew to Locan and pulled him back to the podium. "Yes, listen to the Devil if you know what's good for you, demons!" Morpheus shouted as he put his hand over Locan's wounds and they healed.

"I believe you." Morpheus said as Locan looked at him with a thankful look. Suddenly, Locan felt something strange. Something that he couldn't think he would feel down in these nether regions. Something he thought only belonged far, far away, close to where light reigned.

Locan tried to get up, with a bit of difficulty, and managed to stand up straight.

Baal pulled him up onto his own podium and pat his face, hard enough to make him feel pain but not hard enough to wound him. "Locan, Locan, Locan. What have you got yourself into?"

"I was just doing... My service to Satan, my lord." Locan said.

"IMPEACH HIM!" The council screamed. "He is not worth the title of Satan!"

Locan: "But... It's the truth! I heard it from Metatron himself! He can see the future!"

Baal: "Apparently, you have forgotten the teachings of Satan. You see, when the Apocalypse happens, it will be when a gateway from Hell is opened on Earth, and the legions of demons spill onto the Earth and spread misery and destruction. We shall not spare anyone until they curse the very name of God, that's when we kill them, and they are given eternal life right here in Hell. So you see, Inferus cannot seize to exist, because in the end of days, SATAN, THE ANTI-GOD WILL BE THE UNDISPUTED RULER OF THE UNIVERSE!"

He grabbed Locan's neck and walked towards the edge of his podium, making Locan dangle over the abyss. "Now, I shall give you one more chance, Locan, take back what you have just said about pre-destiny, and say that the end of days belongs to Satan."

Locan choked with Baal's powerful grip. He looked at Morpheus with a look of needing desperate help. He had a little bit of hope, after all, Morpheus believed in him. Morpheus thought about it, but his first priority is always his own good, so he bowed his head down and turned his back to Locan.

Locan tried to lie. "The end of days..." His words came out with a choked cough.

"The end of days..." He said.

The demoness Hel turned to Tezcatlipoca with a smirk, "We should forgive him after he kneels before the devil and repents. He is one of the best we've got, after all."

Tezcatlipoca nodded with a laugh.

Amen looked on with a twinkle in his eye, he thought silently: "Come on, Locan. Do what I think you're going to do. Fall into the erroneous concept of righteousness. Once your tribe is expelled from the council, I shall lobby for my own people to nominate Anubis to take your place. Then we will have the majority in the senate, and soon-afterwards dominion of earth will be mine!"

Everyone continued to watch anxiously.

Locan choked.

"The end of days." He said. His eyes turning into a strange glow. Suddenly, the redness inside disappeared, and a brightening color started to come. It was green.

"Belongs to Good..." He continued, "And only God is Good."

Baal's eyes widened in horror. He looked deep into Locan's eyes, and they turned a golden color, and from within it, a bright blue hue started to swirl with the golden color.

He had converted.

Baal let go of his grip on Locan. Before he could fall victim of the abyss's gravity, Locan warped towards the edge of the abyss. He rubbed his neck then stood up with a strict stature. It was only then that they all realize that Locan had chosen his side.

"I cannot believe it. You have the GUTS to turn into the side of righteousness, right before the council of Satan?!" Baal screamed.

"So I guess I'm really screwed, aren't I?" Locan said, with a smirk.

"GET HIM!" Baal screamed.

“Restraint!” Inanna begged with a loud cry, trying timidly to keep chaos from engulfing the council.

Tezcatlipoca was the first to charge. As he teleported in front of Locan, he swung his heavy spike made of pure gold and heaved it towards Locan. Locan warped on top of Tezcatlipoca's massive head, he kicked his helmet out of his head and used his gravity control to pull the spiked ball, along with its velocity potential towards Tezcatlipoca's head. Locan warped away just before it smashed right into his head, making him fall into the abyss with an ear-shattering scream.

The underground started shaking and rocks started falling from the top of the gigantic cave.

"Where's your tribe when you need them?" Locan asked as he stood on guard.

Hades put his helmet on and he disappeared, moments later someone started pulling Locan's hands aback. Marduk summoned his Dragon and jumped on its back, flying towards Locan as the dragon spat its fires every which direction. Baal flew out of the way as he watched in leisure. Morpheus stood back and merely sighed.

The dragon approached, a moment away from turning Locan into a pile of charcoal. With lightning reflexes, Locan swung his head back and hit Hades' head with an audible crunch, causing his helmet to the fall to the ground and making Hades reappear. Locan pulled Hades around and flung him towards the flames of the dragon in time for him to warp out of harm's way. Hades screamed, trying to put the flames out and tripping on the edge, causing him to fall towards the obscure depths of the abyss.

Locan appeared in front of Hel, from up close you could notice that one half of her face was amazingly beautiful while the other was hideous to look at. "Nice legs, I've always wanted to say that, by the way." Locan smirked. She kicked him in the chest with a fearsome war-cry. Locan stumbled back in pain but absorbed her second kick as he self-combusted into flames.

"Do all Jenns treat their women that way?" She snickered as she dodged one of his fire balls.

"Only to the bitches, unfortunately. Especially the half-ugly ones." Locan replied.

Hel shouted as she jumped on Locan's head and swung around in a full circle, kicking his legs with a powerful blow, causing Locan to roll in the air and fall on the ground, right on the edge of the abyss.

"Note to self." He said. "Don't taunt a woman in battle."

He looked up, but it was too late, Hel was coming at him with an axe. He pushed himself forward, grabbing her legs, and then stood up while pushing her body laterally behind him. As Hel flew in the air, she looked down and realized that she was now falling right into the abyss. She let out a blood-curdling scream as she disappeared into the abyss, following the others.

Locan looked up and paused for a moment. He smiled and sang: “I see you!”

Amen stepped forward and was visible again. He had the strange knack to become invisible by making you forget that he was actually there.

Locan prepared to shoot a fire ball but Amen raised his hand: "Friend, I am no fighter. Surely, as a righteous man yourself; you wouldn't attack someone who hasn't provoked you?" He said with a sinister smile.
Locan put his hand down.

There was an ear-shattering boom, Locan was flung far and tumbled on the ground. “Damn you, Amen.” He said as he struggled to stand up. Amen warped in front of him and uppercut him with a sonic-powered punch. Locan flew upwards and tumbled to the ground again.

His body functions were starting to break down.

Amen started to walk towards Locan. “I don’t usually like to attract attention to myself. I like people to know I’m there, but not know at the same time. But it is rare times like these when I am forced to reveal myself. And now, I am going to finish you.”

Amen powered himself up and prepared to do a devastating Sonic Storm.

“Lord Baal! Please stop this madness!” The bronze-skinned Inanna shouted.

"She’s right. Enough!” Baal shouted, “Amen, stand down!”

Amen mumbled and walked away.

Everybody looked back at Baal.

"Do the honorable thing and relinquish your seat, Locan!" Inanna pleaded.

From the distance, demonic guards walked towards the assembly, pushing a few hundred demons towards them.

It was the El-Jenn tribe, they had been summoned.

"I will, gladly, just don't harm my people." Locan said; seeing his people gave him back his strength and he hurriedly stood up and warped on his podium. He didn’t hesitate in relinquishing his Amra Mungis to Baal.

Baal paused then took the Mungis with a disappointed sigh.

He looked up at Morpheus: "This day will be remembered as the day that we've lost one of the greatest of Satan. And to what?!" He said with utter frustration.

Morpheus shook his head: "Shame, Locan. You are weaker than I thought." He said.

"So my people will be unharmed?" Locan asked.

Baal nodded. "I won't harm you or them, you have my word," he said "But I am also a strategist. And I know that without our Devan ears; we do have a slight disadvantage against the forces of heaven, so I would like you to pick a successor from your tribe. One who possesses the skill to traverse the cosmos and eavesdrop on Deva." Baal said. "In return, I won't fling you, nor them, onto the abyss."

An old man from the group walked forward: "What is going on? Locan. What has happened to the council?" He said.

"Name yourself, old man!" Morpheus shouted.

"I am Hudad El-Jenn, senior tribes-man." He said.

"Hudad?" Baal said as he turned towards Morpheus "I know I've heard that name before."

"Indeed, milord." Morpheus said, "He is one of the former students of Lilith, an avid sorcerer. And holder of the record for most human psyches possessed."

"Remarkable!" Baal said turning towards Hudad: "You. You shall be the new Satan in place of Locan." He said.

"Noted." Hudad said. "But first, I would like to know why Locan has relinquished his own seat in the senate."

Locan looked up to Baal. Baal smiled: "He is a traitor, he has become righteous."

"Is this true, Locan?" Hudad asked.

Locan turned towards Hudad with a shameful bow: "That is true, kinsman. I have seen the light, and it has tainted me. I am confused. But I feel more right on this side. And you are the one who has always taught me; put yourself as the priority before all others. And my soul tells me that this is right."

Hudad shook his head disappointedly.

Baal clapped: "So, we now officially crown the new senator... Who is also promoted to the rank of..."

"That won't be necessary." Hudad said, with a rude interruption, and a gesture of his hand.

Everyone looked at Hudad with piercing gazes. "WHAT?!" Baal shouted.

"I said that it won't be necessary. You see the El-Jenn tribe have very close bonds to one another. If one of us is broken, we are all broken. If one of us succeeds, we are all successful. Hence, you see, I cannot accept your seat, nor your promotion. That is because we shall autonomously follow the footsteps of our own pride and joy, Locan." Hudad said, turning towards Locan with a soft smile.

Locan looked on in shock. He turned towards Baal and Morpheus and noticed that their shock was even more extreme, so he relaxed.

"Away! Away from me! ALL OF YOU!" Baal screamed, starting to flap his wings as he rose in the air.

"Banish them all as far away from me as possible! I don't EVER want to see any of their tribes-folk, from this day forth; they will be accursed and will be spat upon from every demon in hell!" Baal screamed as he flew away, the clouds of cold air forming as he flapped away.

Morpheus shook his head as he followed Baal, saying: "Worry not lord, let's see how long they can survive with their idealist’s ideology in this domain. That has never been attempted ever before; the concept in itself is absurd!"

As they disappeared in the distance, Locan warped towards Hudad.

There was an awkward silence.

Locan stuttered: "Kinsman, you didn't..."

"Nonsense." Hudad said, "It was worth it. And you know the funny thing?"

"What?" Locan said as the council members started to walk away back to their own obscure and sinister lives. All of them walked back disappointed and shocked, except one.

"I have felt that in this day, there was to be a great change in our tribe, a change to the better. In fact..." Hudad paused, as he put a hand on Locan's shoulder and started to lead him through the El-Jenn tribe and away from the council hall. The shaken tribesmen and tribeswomen followed.

"... I think it was pre-destined." Hudad concluded.
